Ashwin Srinivasan is a bansuri (bamboo flute) player. Born into a family of musicians, he began learning the sitar at the age of two from his mother, a student of the Pt. Ravi Shankar style, before turning to the bansuri at seven. He trained with Shri Venkatesh Godkhindi and Shri Pundalik Shenoy of Bangalore, and in Mumbai with violinist and Padma Bhushan recipient Dr. N. Rajam, a pioneer of the gayaki (vocal) technique. One of the youngest A grade artistes of All India Radio (AIR) and a recipient of the Sur-Mani award, he has performed at the Gandharv Mahavidyalaya Smriti Mahotsav, Panchakshari Gavai Mahotsav and Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan. Also a session flautist proficient on various world folk wind instruments, he has worked extensively in Bollywood and on Hollywood films including "The Namesake", "Midnight's Children", "The Reluctant Fundamentalist" and "Queen of Katwe", working with composers such as Gabriel Yared and Gustavo Santaolala. In concerts and recordings with Nitin Sawhney (UK), he has collaborated with Anushka Shankar, Imogen Heap and Joss Stone, and he was a music arranger on Lata Mangeshkar's albums "Antarnaad", "Saadgi" and "Sarhadein". As composer and producer, he worked with Nitin Sawhney on Tim Supple's theatre production of Shakespeare's "As You Like It". In 2011 he released "Ashwin and the Bombay Project", recorded entirely live in a single day with his band of the same name, blending Indian classical music, jazz, funk and world folk. He has also appeared on MTV Unplugged India (Season 1) and on "The Dewarists".
