Agra Gharana

Descended from the Nauhar Bani and revived by Ghagge Khudabaksh, the Agra gharana blends khayal with dhrupad‑dhamar. Its singers favour forceful open‑throated projection and start with a nom‑tom alap. Layakari and broad ornamentations such as gamaks and meends are prized, and the repertoire ranges from dhrupad‑dhamar to khayal, thumri, tappa, tarana and hori.
