Benares (Thumri) Gharana

The Benaras thumri style (also called bol‑banav thumri) emphasises languid, expressive singing in which the melody follows the words. Singers employ delicate alankar and thoughtful pauses, use talas like Dadra or Deepchandi and end with laggi‑chanti to give the tabla prominence.
