Darbhanga (Dhrupad) Gharana

This dhrupad gharana arose in the 18th century at the Darbhanga court when Radhakrishna and Kartaram, musicians in the Maharaja’s court, combined elements of Gauhar bani and Khandar bani. Its singers deliver energetic, rhythmic alaps and maintain a strong balance between the alap and the composed bandish; performances can be lengthy and involve multiple performers.
