Etawah (Imdadkhani) Gharana
Sitar
Also known as the Imdadkhani gharana, this sitar and surbahar tradition was founded by Imdad Khan of Etawah. Its exponents, Enayat Khan, Vilayat Khan and others, developed the gayaki‑ang style, using fluid meends and intricate tans to emulate the human voice. The gharana is credited with inventing the surbahar and reshaping the modern sitar.
