Gwalior Gharana

Called the 'Gangotri' of khayal, the Gwalior gharana is the oldest and most influential vocal school. It stresses clear pronunciation of swaras, a straightforward, systematic raga development and extensive use of taans; many later gharanas trace their repertoire and pedagogy to this tradition.
