The Kirana gharana, popularised by Abdul Karim Khan and Abdul Wahid Khan, evolved from dhrupad lineages. It is celebrated for its slow, meditative exposition, sweet tone and focus on the purity and emotional colouring of individual swaras; performers employ long meends and andolans to evoke pathos.
