Shahjahanpur Gharana

The Shahjahanpur sarod gharana traces back to Afghan rabab players who settled in north India and blended robust rhythmic strumming with Indian melodic subtleties. In the 20th century Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitra fused the old rababiya style with Senia vocal techniques to create the Senia‑Shahjahanpur gharana; one branch, represented by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan’s family, is today known as the Senia Bangash tradition.
