Sanjeev Abhyankar is a Hindustani classical vocalist of the Mewati gharana. Born in 1969, he was clear about his vocation from the age of three and began learning Hindustani classical music at eight. He has been groomed by his mother, Dr. Shobha Abhyankar, Pt. Pimpalkhare and Padma Vibhushan Pt. Jasraj. Though he aimed for a career in music from childhood, he also earned a bachelor's degree in commerce. Sanjeev gave his first stage performance in Mumbai at the age of 11. He has since travelled extensively, performing at prestigious conferences and art circles across India, and has performed in the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, in over 200 cities to date. His festival appearances include the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Samaroh in Pune, the ITC Sammelan and Doverlane Music Conference in Kolkata, the Swami Haridas Sammelan in Vrindavan and the Maha Kumbh Mela Festival, as well as Radio Sangeet Sammelans in several cities. His award-winning performance in 'Godmother' and his renditions of Marathi abhangs, bhavgeets and Hindi and Sanskrit bhajans reflect his versatility. He has also added his own compositions to the repertoire of Mewati gharana bandishes.
