Subrata De is a sitar player of the Bishnupur Gharana. He began his training in 1977 under Shri Amarjit Singh and learnt the nuances of the sitar from Surmani Bauri Bandhu Sethi. In 1987 he became a disciple of Pt. Mannilal Nag of the Bishnupur Gharana, receiving training in the Dhrupad and gayaki styles, Tankari, Alapang and Gatkari, which are identifying features of the Bishnupur Gharana.
