Ustad Ghulam Hussain Khan, popularly known as Raja Miyan, is a Hindustani classical vocalist of the Agra gharana. He was born in 1954 into an illustrious family of traditional musicians of the gharana, the son of Ustad Anwar Hussain Khan, a well-known artiste of the Agra gharana. After his father's untimely death, Raja Miyan began formal training under his uncle, Padma Bhushan Ustad Khadim Hussain Khan, a respected guru of the Agra gharana; the intensive training continued for a decade. He then received guidance from Ustad Yunus Hussain Khan. At a very early age he was selected by the Maharashtra Government to participate in programmes it sponsored. Raja Miyan's gayaki presents the beauty of the bandish, with a special love for both sur and bol and a fine sense of laya. Marked by a dhrupad-like "nom-tom" alaap, bol taans and bol baant, it reflects the strong influence of his uncle, the late Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan. He has given scores of private and public performances, is a regular performer on All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan, and received the title of "Sur Mani" from the Sur Singar Samsad.
