Sanjeev Chimmalgi is a Hindustani classical vocalist whose singing weaves together aspects of the Kirana, Gwalior and Agra gharanas. He has been singing professionally since his early twenties and has performed across India as well as in the US, the UK and Spain. His concerts are noted for their fluidity and grace, with a sophisticated treatment of the raga and a delicate approach to both svar and bol, reflecting the values of simplicity, lucidity and refinement. He has also explored popular forms such as bhajan, sugam sangeet, film song and contemporary fusion. In 1993 he won the All India Radio (AIR) Music Competition, an all-India competition for those under 23, and as a result became a graded artiste of AIR. He held a two-year Government of India National Scholarship for Young Achievers in the field of Indian music, extended to three years (1995-1998) based on his progress. He received the Sangeetha Shiromani Award 2005-2006 from Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha, comprising a citation and Rs 25,000 in cash, and was recognised for best male playback singing for the Marathi film 'Aai Shappath'. He has been nominated for the Zee Gaurav and the V Shantaram Puraskar, and for the Maharashtra Shasan Puraskar in 2006.
