Shridhar Parsekar was a violinist and composer, widely considered the greatest violinist in Hindustani music in the 20th century. He was born in Parsem, in the shadow of the Bhagwati temple, and was trained in the violin by Gajananrao Joshi. His life was marked by tragedy brought on by alcoholism, which took a heavy toll on his mind, body and spirit. He died in 1964 at the age of 44. The villagers of Parsem have not forgotten him, and a classical music festival is celebrated in his name every year.
