Yuji Nakagawa is a Japanese-born sarangi player who has learnt the instrument from masters across India for over 16 years. His initial training was in Varanasi under senior sarangi player Ustad Faiyaz Ali Khan. He is one of the senior-most disciples of the late Pt. Dhruba Ghosh, with whom he trained for 12 years in the guru-shishya parampara, and he also received technical guidance from Shri Sangeet Mishra. He was supported in part by an Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship from 2009 to 2015. Yuji has performed extensively as a soloist and has accompanied many eminent Hindustani classical musicians. He has given solo recitals across India and solo and ensemble performances in Thailand, Singapore, the Netherlands, Canada and Japan. His performances have been received with critical acclaim, and his awards and scholarships include recognition at the 2017 Osaka International Music Competition.
